5 Fabulous Gin Cocktails for Easter Sunday

5 Fabulous Gin Cocktails for Easter Sunday
I used to hate Gin. I thought it smelled like bad perfume and would stare at my big sister and mum in wonder as they sipped it contentedly.  It wasn’t until I moved to Wales, and sat in my new rented flat, away from all my friends and family, that I rooted out a bottle of Caorunn that I got as a leaving present and decided that, as everything around me was new and unknown, my drinks may as well be the same. That, and I couldn’t recall which box I packed the kettle in.

So, I tried and I loved. So I tried again.  And, well, basically, I’ve been trying it ever since. If you’re a fan of gin and celebrating the easter weekend, why not try out these cocktails?

You can buy sugar syrup in supermarkets, but I make my own by heating up sugar and water in a pan on the stove and letting it cool before using. Also: I like larger than average measures as it means I don’t have to trail back and forward to the kitchen so much.

Easter Elderflower:

Gin – 60ml
Lemon Juice – 25ml
Elderflower sparking water (I use Aldi’s, but any variation is fine) – to fill
Sugar syrup – 15ml
Slice of lemon to garnish

Mix gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup in cocktail shaker, then pour. Top with sparkling water and garnish with slice of lemon.
Riga Blackcurrant:

Gin – 60ml
Riga Black Balzams (or Cassis) – 10ml
Lemon Juice – 20ml
Sugar Syrup – 10ml
Raspberries x 5-10 (squish and mix with lemon juice)
Raspberry to garnish

Mix gin, sugar syrup and Black Balzams in cocktail shaker. Muddle fresh raspberries with the lemon juice and then add to the gin mixture.  Garnish with fresh raspberries.
Easter Sunday Breakfast Martini:

Dry Gin – 60ml
Lemon Juice – 10ml
Sugary Syrup – 10ml
Triple Sec – 10ml
Marmalade – 1 tablespoon
Lemon rind

Mix lemon juice, sugar syrup and marmalade until smooth. Add gin and garnish with lemon rind.
Easter Bunny Chocolate Alexander:

Gin – 60ml
Chocolate ice cream – 1 scoop
Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder

Pop both in a cocktail shaker and shake until well mixed. Garnish with grated chocolate shavings or, if you’re lazy like me, sprinkle over some aero hot chocolate powder.
Pink Grapefruit Gin:

Gin – 60ml
Juice from half a pink grapefruit (or 20ml of juice)
1/2 teaspoon honey

Mix all contents in a shaker and serve over ice.

Have a great easter!
