Llanbedr: Wenallt Tea Room

‘Head to Wenallt for Coffee, Cake and Chilling…’

Nestled on the main street as you pass through the charming little village of Llanbedr in Snowdonia National Park, is Wenallt Deli and Tea Room.

Starting life as local deli and off licence, it was refurbished and reopened in August 2016 as a contemporary tea room. Keeping the deli counter and the ability to sell wine (yay!), it has expanded its offering to serving breakfasts and lunch, as well as a range of tasty cakes, local cheeses, meats, and drinks.

I’ve driven past a few times recently and had been keen to stop off. The exterior is so inviting and the lighting I could see from inside made me very interested in having a closer look. After escaping early from work, I grabbed my husband and drove over, happily finding a parking space right outside (that NEVER happens to me).

We were warmly greeted as soon as we got inside and were immediately struck by the gorgeous decor and cosy feel of the Cafe. The owner explained that she and her business partner had done the work themselves and they’ve done a fantastic job. It has a lovely atmosphere with a mixture of lacquer and wooden tables and chair; fat cushions, and a spotless glass deli counter with gleaming cake cases on top, which had Les instantly mesmerised.

We grabbed a table by the cute window box, only to realise a few minutes later that we had just plonked ourselves in rocking chairs (I will NEVER be able to go back without being desperate to sit there now), facing the pretty little window box seat, looking out across the middle of the village.
We ordered cappuccino to feed my addiction, and a pot of tea and big fat slice of chocolate cake to feed my husband’s habit of eating baked goods at every possible opportunity. He tells me he’s just helping me out by trying stuff for me because I can’t eat it, but I’m not convinced.

One of the things I loved about Wenallt, aside the lovely service and the great coffee, was that it struck me as the perfect place for me to write on a quiet afternoon. It just has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and cosy interior that draw you in. It also looks like a great place to stop off for a hot chocolate and donut on a cold, rainy Sunday. I’m fairly certain this will happen very soon. Quite possibly tomorrow.
